At HYER GOODS, ethical manufacturing is at the heart of everything we do. We partner with small, family-owned workshops in Italy and New York City who share our commitment to quality, transparency, and responsible manufacturing.
Our Manufacturing Method: Small Workshops, Not Mass Production
We intentionally work with smaller, independent workshops rather than large-scale factories focused on volume. Our leather goods are produced in family-owned ateliers in Italy with generations of experience in craftsmanship. Select woven leather pieces are hand-woven in India. Our knitwear is made in New York City in one of the last remaining factories here. We visit frequently and can ensure fair labor conditions. Working at a smaller scale allows us to: • Maintain direct relationships with the people who make our goods • Oversee quality closely • Produce in limited quantities • Avoid unnecessary overproduction We believe ethical manufacturing is not only about compliance — it is about partnership. By collaborating with workshops that value their craft and their workers, we ensure that every piece reflects both skill and care.
Where Our Pieces Are Made
We work with a small group of manufacturing partners in four countries. We choose each partner for their craftsmanship and for how well they work with leftover materials.
Italy: leather bags and small leather goods
Most of our collection is made in Italy by two family-owned workshops in the Le Marché. Many of these workshops also produce for heritage luxury houses. Most of our deadstock leather comes from tanneries close to these workshops, which keeps transport to a minimum. Italy is where our closest partnerships are, and we visit our Italian workshops once or twice a year.
Türkiye: knitwear
Our knitwear is made in Istanbul by Gönül Örme, a family-run knitwear manufacturer founded in 1987 that also produces for international luxury brands. We moved knitwear here because our NYC-based factory had no leftover yarn. Gönül Örme's facility is GOTS-certified and is a member of Sedex, a platform for sharing ethical supply chain data.
India: woven bags
Our woven bags are handmade in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, by AB Global. This family-run leather goods maker was founded in 1978 and has hand-woven leather for international luxury and designer labels for decades. Our bags use buffalo leather from animals that died of natural causes only. No animals are raised or slaughtered for our materials.
NYC: previous knitwear
Our earlier knitwear was made at a small factory in New York City. We no longer produce there, but some of our knit styles are still from those production runs.

We visit our Italian workshops once or twice a year. We haven't visited our partners in Türkiye or India yet. For now, we rely on Gönül Örme's Sedex membership. We plan to visit both partners by 2028. We haven't yet measured wages against a living-wage benchmark, and we're working toward doing that.
